Last Sunday I embarked on a 6-day Spring Cleanse & Research Project.  The timing was perfect with the husband being away for the week and I was interested in trying out this product and their cleanse program as a comparison to my 3 Steps Toward Optimal Health program.

The Elixirs (purified water flavored with Joos) were really great after a long workout too!

You can simply enjoy any of their products as a supplement to your regular diet or they also offer consuming them as part of a 3-21 day cleanse or “Reboot” as they refer to it.

Their Reboot is fairly similar to my 3 Steps Toward Optimal Health program.  Both programs require that you avoid consuming dairy, sugar, processed foods and alcohol.  With the Reboot you have a Joos with chia seeds for breakfast, lunch of vegetables/fruit and plant-based protein, fruit/vegetable snack and another Joos for dinner.  My program is 2 weeks long with three phases: Days 1-6 fruits and vegetables only, Days 7-11 protein is allowed and Days 12-14 whole grains and nuts are added back to your diet.

Here are my thoughts and comments after completing 6 days on the Reboot program:

*Overall the experience was very positive and I like the product a lot.  I didn’t feel too hungry at any point and had enough energy to complete my normal fitness activities.

*I like the inclusion of plant-based protein in the Joos program for individuals who are working out regularly.

*I have been enjoying smoothies for breakfast for a few years, but have not dabbled in juicing previously.  I like all the fiber and thicker consistency provided in a smoothie that seems more filling.  However, I was really surprised at how long a Joos with chia seeds for breakfast kept me satisfied each day.

*Having the Joos made it somewhat simpler than my program in that I didn’t have to plan or think as much about what I was going to eat each day.  I really only had to consider lunch and I also supplemented the Joos at dinner with a very large portion of some kind of vegetable side like roasted cauliflower for example.

*I think people who aren’t following a healthy diet regularly would benefit from participating in a program for 2-3 weeks to make a lasting change in habits.  However, if an individual was already of a healthy weight, I fear they may lose more weight than appropriate if doing the Reboot program for that long.  I also like that by the end of my program (Phase 3) people are eating in a manner that is ideal and sustainable for daily life.

Now that my husband is home and I would like to resume making normal family dinners, I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate the Joos product into my normal routine.  I think I may continue having the Joos with chia seeds for breakfast for a while longer.  I would love to lose 5 more pounds to return to my ideal summer weight.  My smoothies while just as healthy, are about 2-3x the amount of calories.  I may also have a Joos with vegetable for lunch and then my normal dinner.  I’m still thinking this over.

I am facilitating my spring session of my 3 Steps Toward Optimal Health program beginning Sunday, May 4.  I am planning to recommend that participants consider including the Joos product for ease of use over the 2 weeks.  If you are interested in more information about my program or participating, please let me know before Friday, April 18 to allow time for materials to be purchased and provided as necessary.
